The Ministry of Employment and the Economy (MEE) has granted an extension of a biogas plant in Turku Board of Directors spearhead project support was EUR 7.97 million. Gasum Oy's design for project portfolio includes the Turku Topinoja biogas plant extension for the production of biogas as well as refining and liquefaction plant construction. As part of the project in the Turku region will be built for the needs of light to the road, two new biogas filling stations. The total value of the investment is EUR 26 million, in size.

Turku whole project design work will commence immediately. The final investment decision on the project is scheduled for the spring of 2017. The investment is expected to be completed during 2018. The employment effect of the construction phase of the project is approximately 170 person-years. Biogas plant total capacity after expansion is about 110 000 tonnes per year of sewage sludge and separately collected biowaste and industrial side streams. The project will strengthen the domestic biogas market growth and strongly promote the use of biogas as a transport.

"Spearhead project aid to Turku biogas project is a strong indication of government commitment to the development of biogas market in Finland. Domestic and completely renewable biogas has a key role to play in road transport emissions must be a clear decline in Finnish accordance with legally binding climate targets ", Gasum's CEO Johanna Lamminen says.

Liquefied biogas ships and by road for heavy vehicles

The development of the biogas market and the increase in production is a key part of our strategy. Turku Topinoja biogas plant expansion project includes the production of biogas processing and liquefaction. At the same time, Gasum Oy to build the Turku region for the needs of light to the road, two new biogas filling stations that allow the produced biogas from waste from local distribution.

Biogas liquefaction of biogas enables the distribution of heavy road transport and shipping fuel. Turku biogas plant annual nesteytyskapasiteetti equivalent to annual fuel consumption by about 300 heavy vehicle. Liquefied biogas Gasum is filled with heavy traffic service station, the first of which are the Turku and Vuosaari ports. The following heavy traffic stations built in the year 2017 in Vantaa and Jyväskylä.

The Government of the tip of the projects aim, in accordance with the government program to bring the Finnish economy to sustainable growth and rising employment trend. Bio-economy and clean solutions -kärkihankkeiden objective is to sustainably increase the share of renewable energy, in order to exceed 2020s to 50 per cent. The target is based on the increase, particularly bioenergy and other renewable emissions-free energy supply.
