POSITION SUMMARY

Train and assist in performing routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Barge Superintendent and Port Engineer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Port Engineer.
  • Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Perform repair and maintenance work on vessels as required.
  • Work with other company mechanics as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours.
  • Marine engine and gear experience preferred
  • Experience in maintaining tugs and barges a plus.
  • Caterpillar engine experience preferred
  • Experience with mechanics hand and power tools, grinders, forklift
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions.
  • Required to work aboard boats and barges using winches and mechanical tools for repairs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired.
  • First Aid and CPR training.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT and CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.
